Spioenkop Nature Reserve – March 2017

The flight up to Spioenkop this morning was buttery smooth thanks to perfect flying weather and the skills of one of our Pilot Officers, Neil Garden. We arrived at Spioenkop just after 08h40 and completed a perimeter fence patrol and a few general shoreline sweeps of the dam.

Spioenkop dam seems to have benefited greatly from the recent heavy rains experienced throughout KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa. The dam wall can be seen overflowing in the pictures below. We were very pleased to see plenty wildlife in the reserve and all seemed to be enjoying the greener grass and cooler weather.

Overall, we were very pleased with what we could see and had nothing serious to report to the Officer in Charge at Spioenkop.

Thanks to those in charge at Spioenkop nature reserve for allowing us to fly over your beautiful reserve and for partnering with us in our conservation efforts.
